Shabby chic

After Lesley at Printed Material pointed out these on this lovely blog.  I had to have a go.

The petals are cut from a cotton napkin I got from Sainsbury's. They were under £4 for four, just right for a bit of embroidery. The centres are scraps of fabric, ribbon and trimmings. I made the leaves by bonding some green velvet and linen and stitched in the outlines and veins. Unlike the ones on the video I stitched them together as I had no suitable fabric glue.

I quite like doing this sort of thing as it is something I can sit and do while (half) watching TV. I am being a bit of a butterfly at the moment flitting from one thing to another, perhaps it is the spring weather.

Oohhh... pretty, pretty... I like these very much - they are quite different to most of the flowers that are about just now. You have made a great job of your own version and I think they are all the better for being stitched, rather than glued together. Love the leaves too!
The yellow one is my favourite (but I always like yellow)

I must have missed this when Lesley mentioned it - I love the idea and can't wait to give it a try myself. I liked yours better though and am sure stitching would be a better bet than glueing it all together. What fun. Did Marvin give you a hand with it?!

They are just lovely, I like them all and agree that stitching is better.

Ok, Jill, I think you've got me! Haven't done any handwork in years, but this looks like fun. How bad is it to have to BUY scraps, tho? Thanks for the push.

Jill,
Here's the difference between us. I see these things and tell you. I'm still thinking about it and you've already finished a set of them! I have not got any fabric glue either but I thought they'd be better stitched anyway. I thought a bit of obvious stitching would add to the shabbiness of the overall look. These look good. I shall be waiting eagerly to see what next week's endeavours bring forth...... Lesley

They are lovely Jill ... the car boot is at Stondon .... just go thru Hitchin, Ickleford and head for Henlow .... when you get to the big roundabout (The Bird in Hand Pub Hotel is on the left) turn left and go through Stondon Village and when you come out the other side you will see the boot on the top of the hill in front of you .... best time to get there for the bargains is between 10 and 10.30. There is also a Saturday morning boot at Graveley Fruit Farm starts at 9.00 but they charge around £3 entry at that time .... from 11.00 it is 50p each. Have fun x
