What's a few cobwebs beetween friends ...

When I posted a before and after of Noddy and Big Ears here I promised I would share a few more shots of my 'top shelf'.  Mr T has always been a collector of old packages and aided by his Mum we have quite a collection plus my china.

Unfortunately the shelf is rather high so I don't get up to dust the top very often!

so if you won't think any worse of me I'll share a few close-ups with cobwebs.

That's corns and constipation taken care of.

Most of these are concerned with cleaning or tea, plus the Oxo tin of course.

Hey, but what is that perched on the Black Magic tin?
It is a set of lino cutting tools - priced 1s. 4d. that is about 6p in today's money. I have just bought a set and had completely forgotten about these - I wonder if they will work.

Looks like your husband would love the museum of packaging in Notting Hill http://www.museumofbrands.com/ check out their website if you don't already know it - it's interesting though the fact that I can remember a lot of the stuff in museums is putting me off going nowadays!!

I bet you paid more than 1s 4d for your new lino cutting tools?!

I like collecting old stuff as well, its called clutter in our house, yours is so nicely arranged. Pottery is a part time interest of mine (see http://www.astbury.org/), the blue and white plate on the left looks interesting (the one on the right looks like a modern transfer print). I love the old tins.

Well done Duncan - the left hand plate was my grandmother's and is probably over 100 years old stone wear, whereas the right had one is modern.

SERIOUS old plate envy going on here.... and the lovely old tins........ super! These digital cameras have a lot to answer for dont they in terms of all the muck they capture. I have a photo I took well before Christmas which shows how caked up with fluff my sewing maching needle and presser foot are....... I shall publish and be damned at some point....
:O)

That's the sort of Top Shelf I approve of!! Love the tins, you'd pay a small fortune for those nowadays.

We should have a whose got the dustiest top shelf competition .... think I'd win hands down! I collect Blue & White china too Jill .... have been addicted since I visited the Spode factory in the 90s (1990s that is not 1890s);-)

So fun and so foreign. Amazing what the Ocean did to separate culture. Now I'm surprised at how well we communicate and get each other's jokes on the internet. This makes it fun to visit all over the world, but kind of sad that unique items such as your UK products will probably be lost to mass advertizing. Keep those treasures.

Jill,
I hope you've never had cause to use those Carnation Corn Pads? Sadly, I cannot say the same.... forget the cobwebs though and just enjoy the collecting. I don't know about the museum Jane recommends but I'll try and look it up. Robert Opie used to have a great museum of packaging in Gloucester which closed down so I wonder if this is its new home. I don't remember Black Magic in a tin! That's cheered me up. Maybe I'm not as decrepit as I think I am as, like Jane, I remember so many of the other things only too well. Fabulous post. I love all these nostalgic collections. Lesley.

Oh what memories this brings back. It pains me to say that I seem to be able to remember most of these packages, what a wonderful collection. Thank for sharing.
