Hi John and Trish

Today's blog is dedicated to our dear friends John and Trish who hosted our New Year celebrations. They are stuck in Kuala Lumpur with not much prospect of a flight home. They have got WiFi connection so I hope they are able to keep in contact.
I have had a great day - so I ignored the dust so deep I could grow potatoes on the bookshelf, the kitchen floor which could feed a family of four (and a cat) and the filter of my dishwasher which could be used for a nourishing soup and went to a local car boot sale this morning inspired by lala's post. I am not really an early bird or a car boot person, but after dropping Mr T off I headed to the Olde Water Mill garden centre. There were only about 25 cars and as it was about 10.30 I didn't think I would have much luck. But look at this -

All this for about £8 - My best buy, the iron for £2, just what I need  for my craft work. The FW acrylic inks are labelled £2.25 each, but are now over £4 a bottle. (all for £3 including the some cheap brushes - just right for glue and gels and some beads. In the Water Mill I was also able to but embroidery threads and some fabric scraps from the quilting shop! What a happy bunny I am. By the way Lesley and tried the FW ink on the vilene - it soaked in rather a lot, but I guess if you mixed it with a thickener it could work.
I have been busy in my "J" book too.

Here is the page for 'Jam',
and Lesley, I had already started 'Jamboree' when I read your comment this morning - honest,

although I think Jingoism may be a bit more of a challenge!
Watch this space for 'jokers' and 'Jezebel'.

You are SO lucky where you are to get mid week boot sales. An iron specifically for craftwork is a brilliant idea. Now, I don't know what your ironing board cover is like, but mine bears testament to an awful lot of bondaweb, fabric paint etc. :O)

Hope you friends are not too unhappy.

Jackpot! I bought an iron at the second hand store to be dedicated to melting ski-wax. Looking forward to seeing what is created with your new finds.

Dear Jezebel,
I believe you completely.(Actually can't wait to see what you do for Jezebel... ) Great bargains at the boot sale, especially the FW's. I did a quick experiment this morning before I went out for the day - painted vilene direct with FW's, drawing ink and an ink made with natural dyes and vinegar. All soaked through and it took a lot of ink to cover a small space. So, I coated a larger piece of vilene with three different things - a third with matt medium, a third with PVA and a third with Golden GAC 200. When I came home tonight I quickly painted them with FW's. It didn't soak in as much and gave much deeper richer colour on all three surfaces. Still absorbed a lot of ink except for the GAC which gave a stiffer surface but great coverage. Am intrigued now so carrying on the experiment tomorrow. Sorry to write War and Peace but I love trying to find other ways to do things. Life is always better when there is a choice! Lesley

I love bargains and you certainly picked up a few today! That 'J' book is a great idea...are you just picking J words yourself or are you open to suggestion? How about jocund? or journalese? or jewel? Don't you just(!) love words?

Jill said...

Thanks for the suggestions, I am going for words that appeal as words and those that bring a image to mind, or possibly a quotation. I keep adding words to my 'pending' list.

How satisfying to get such goodies for next to nothing. Sorry not to have been for a while but I can see you've been busy creating more fabulousness so I shall put the kettle on and take a browse.

Thank you for your lovely kind comment.
Happy crafting ..

Love the new pages, not least because I'm rather partial to jam! Am looking forward to more. Is Jacaranda Tree on your list? That could make a lovely image...

Jolly jinks Jill - Janet's jealous.

Jeepers - I am reading through the comments by Printed Materials - I thought FW stood for "'F' Word"!
