Spring is on it's way

What a beautiful morning - it was warm enough to be outside without a coat - as long as I stood in the sun. The birds were shouting and the air was zinging. I planted new crocuses last year and now they are coming out - and I have found a few snowdrops - in bud. I took this photograph of my established crocuses last year on February 27th. I remember I lay down on the grass on an empty compost bag to take it. I would not have wanted to do that today. The soil is water-logged and was still frozen at 11.00 am on the shady side of the garden. I really wanted to do a little weeding, but it was just too wet. If this dry weather keeps up, then maybe at the weekend I can have a go at the dandelions. I took the second photograph on the same day last year, but the purple crocuses were only just showing their colour today, but it will only take a bit of sunshine to bring them on. Oh and I saw what I think was a honey bee in the yellow crocuses, has to be the first of the year, of what ever kind - it is usually the bumble bees I see early. I will have to get my chart if I am going to start logging them. Hope you are enjoying some sun too, Jill.

Jill,
It was warm and sunny here too today. I almost took off my fleece as it felt like a lovely Spring day, but I've been welded to it for so long now I was almost loathe to give it up! Our crocuses ( the few not eaten by the badgers) have only just surfaced. Everything is late, the hellebores in particular. Our bees are active around the hives but no sign of anything on the flowers yet. It's still a bit topsy turvy after this horrendous winter we've had but today has cheered the spirit. Spring really seems just around the corner! Lesley .

Lovely Jill - we have a clump of yellow crocuses in the garden along with some snowdrops and I noticed the purple crocuses in bloom alongside the main road this morning too. I washed my padded jacket to wear tomorrow when I go to France as I'd got dirty marks on it and so went out in just a fleece and it was fine! Spring is nearly here!

Still cold in Central Virginia - the only thing in bloom is the hellebores. Still too cold to dump the heavy jacket, but warmer air is predicted for this weekend. There's hope....

I saw honey bees in our crocuses too, and commented that last year it was the Bumbles I saw first. Had a couple of ladybirds too, not the dreaded Harlequins though! Have had to start weeding here, things really waking up at long last. Hooray.

Nope, no sun today, but at least this gives me some hope. And we are supposed to be in the 50's early next week. :-)

Hi Jill, so glad I popped by today. Your blog is charming and a beautiful mix of everything I love! Hope you enjoy the Spring sunshine and that it keeps dry so you can tackle your dandelions! Carolyn x
