This week

I'm sharing these pages with you because I know you well and you've been with me all the way.  I'm not sure I knew what I was doing here but we all need to do a little experimentation and one of the thresholds I have crossed is not being afraid to show my "less than" pages.

Here I added to the charcoal and wash sketch with a border of forks as reference to previous pages and the tree line.  The chequered sky is showing over a cut-out horizon from the next page shown below.

This is a bit of a mish-mash using a photo-montage, lino cuts and stencil - it actually looks better here than in real life - but it is quite exciting experimenting - at least I'm learning what I don't enjoy doing and what subjects I prefer working with.

As I have been transferring my several thousand photographs onto my new computer I came across these from a couple of years ago and thought I would share.

The two below were part of a series I made of wrapped flowers.

Have a good week,
Jill

  3. I LOVE your fork trees - I didn't notice they were forks at all at first (durrrrr) I just thought they were stylized trees! I think it's so liberating to bear all isn't it?
Oh by the way your local landscape has a real Tuscan feel!

  7. The fork trees are terrific, Jill. Isn't it interesting to look through old photos, they often spark entirely new thought I find.

  8. Ha! Ha! re the volume of photos............... I sit and have a cull every now and then.

Know EXACTLY what you mean about finding out what you don't like doing - I have never been able to collage and get the feeling I never will!

  9. As someone who doesn't produce colourful sketchbook pages, I really enjoy yours and well done for sharing experiments, the mish mash is fun! You're obviously a very talented photographer too!

  10. With your photographic background I'm not surprised you have so many photos Jill. The few you've put here are lovely, showing that unerring eye for colour and composition that you have. I can see the same - even if you think otherwise - in those sketchbook pages. Just lovely.

  12. It is fascinating to see your experiments and progress. I do think it is valuable to share exerimental work as well as pieces you are certain about. It is interesting to see how themes are developed over time. On that theme, have you seen this wonderful videe of a student's sketchbook and workings on WeAreOCA? It's well worth watching.
