I sit at my computer, hot cup of tea, full belly, central heating on, deciding how to cook the chicken this evening, washing machine running, art 'stuff' all around. Cat, fat and sleeping, bird feeders topped up, TV with cricket from South Africa, a car in the drive, music on the hi fi and yet yesterday morning I was feeling fed-up and discontent. I have read the newspaper, heard the radio and watched the news - the plight of the Haitians is unimaginable, even for those not injured. Get things in perspective Jill I tell myself, none of my family are in peril, those who are frail have family and a health service to care for them, not perfect but more than adequate. Imagine having nothing, each one of those anonymous faces we see on the news has a story to tell of family, love, life and loss. Today at least, I will be thankful for my life and be content.

We do take so much for granted sometimes .... thanks for the reality check .... x
Oh Jill thanks for reminding us how much we have to be grateful for - we too easily forget that we are living in the lap of luxury with everything we need and most of what we want and there are those with nothing out there. I think it might be good to list 5 or 6 things every night that we have to be glad about and to keep in mind how lucky we are.

Thanks for the little bit of perspective. We get so caught up in our lives, we forget how lucky we are.
It really does put things into perspective when something like this happens. Here we are moaning about snow and all those poor people in Haiti....
I agree with the other comments, how kind of you to point it out to us, we all have so much and don't appreciate it. I will try not to complain any more (wonder how long that will last!).....we all have short memories.
How right you are!! These dreadful disasters that are all too common now really do give us a reality check.
It's tragic, Haiti had only just started recovering from the 2008 hurricanes Hanna & Ike - now this. Life is desperate enough for most Hatians as it is, without natural disasters.
Sitting looking at my screen thinking how desperately, desperately awful it all is for these poor, poor people. Your words are so right Gill................
Watching the pain and suffering of these people breaks my heart. You wish you could do more to help. Yes, it certainly puts our pathetic troubles in perspective.
