Sunny Saturday

At last a lovely sunny day that I could spend indulging in some art work.  I have been doing bits and pieces, but nothing that I have felt worth sharing. I have decided to sign up for 'Design Matters' Creative Sketchbook Course. Meanwhile today I have been taking a few photographs in the garden and drawing.
First I collected a selection of different yellows and laid them out on some white paper in the dappled shade. I set the camera white balance on 'shadow'. A little tweak has brought out the colours especially in the shadow which looks a bit like a watercolour wash.

I then switched the WB to 'sunny'.
The courgette flower was crying out to be drawn.

I sat it on an old ink bottle, but it just wanted to close up

I love the contrast in colours.  I drew round the shadow cast by the senecio,  but the alchemilla mollis ...

and the Ladies Bedstraw flowers were just too small to draw, but I love the shadows.

As the courgette flower curled up this little chap emerged from the petals.

I came indoors and added some colour to my page and got out the yellow embroidery threads.

Not sure where I shall be taking it next.

It is nearly the end of July and I shall be thinking about my calendar for August next week.
July seems to have been quite a busy month for me.
I am going to try and catch up with all of your posts as I have only been making quick visits lately.
I do hope you are having a sunny weekend too.
Jill

  5. Hiya Jill! I too have missed you. I love your photographs and super drawings :) I'm interested in where you are going with them...especially with those gorgeous threads
I've been to a textile class today - had a great time and much fun on the sewing machine... I dared to delve into the textile arena much inspired by YOU.

  6. What sunny colours. It was indeed a gorgeous day yesterday - I got caught unawares and forgot that you are supposed to apply sunscreen when that orange ball is seen in the sky!

  8. Hi Jill,

Great to hear form you again - I also have missed hearing from you recently. The creative sketchbooks course looks really good. I am tempted myself but don't think I could fit it in with OCA coursework just now. Possibly next year though. I am really keen to see how you get on - from what I've seen so far, your sketchbooks are already incredibly creative and interesting in their own right so I am intrigued to see how you can take this further.

It is lovely to see the sunshine and warmth back again. The sketches you've done really bring that out.

  9. I'm considering doing creative sketchbooks as well. I don't do enough sketchbook work for OCA textiles so this may help.

  12. Lovely sketchbook............. lovely combination, that of yellow and grey/grey blue. I shall be reaching for my "point and press" to see if I can set it like you did yours. (That's assuming I can find in under all the mess!)

  13. Jill,
I think you should be running the course rather than taking it! That courgette flower drawing is stunning. I love all those shades of yellow and what you've captured in photos and on paper. No sun here all weekend. My palette would have had to have been grey! Lesley x

  19. Yes, I don't know what you will come up with either (using the glorious colored embroidery thread), but knowing you and your talent, it's going to be original (always!) and fantastic. I am so glad I have one of your little fabric 'envelopes'.
