Here are some lovely pieces cut from samples of Vanessa Arbuthnott linen union my sister gave me. It is a beautiful pale straw and grey - I scanned this and it is difficult to get the colour right. Here the pieces are zi-zagged together on a piece of thin wadding ready for embellishment.
...and here it is after some embroiderywith some alternatives for a button and threads for a cord. This is a cover for a journal and is now ready for my shop as soon as I can photograph it. I'm hoping for some good light tomorrow. I have enough linen samples for one more cover in a pale green colourway if this one goes down well.
This will be cut down the centre vertically and become two rather bright purses.
Thank you all for your encouragement and support and to everyone who has given me lovely feedback. I am a very happy bunny. (There always has to be something however, and I got a letter from the tax man this morning saying I will have fill in my own tax assessment form - hmmm, but I do have a friend to help).Hope you are have a great weekend - it is all work here, must get back to the sewing machine!
Well deserved success I'd say Jill. Those 2 pieces look great and I am sure will be snapped up when turned into finished articles. Enjoy your weekend.

I love all the things you are making I look at them and feel I just want to have them all. My husband took one of your book covers to Spain today to give to his sister, he has just phoned me to let me know how much she likes it, she is really pleased with it as I am with my things I have bought from you.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what else you are going to make.

Great news on your sales, you must be pleased. I like patterns and the muted colours of the linen union.
ReplyDeleteVery well done on the sales. I like the pale linen piece - and the green one sounds great too.
ReplyDeletehey well done! IT IS VERY WEIRD - I AM SITTING HERE TONIGHT DOING A BOOK JOURNAL COVER IN THE SAME WAY BUT WITH YELLOWY HAND DIED FABRICS. Do you work on a piece of thin fabric or on wadding?
ReplyDeleteHooray for your success! Just don't become so accomplished and busy that you forget to update us on your projects.
ReplyDeleteJill,
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as one of those very satisfied customers, I, for one, never doubted your venture would be successful. Vanessa Arbuthnott designs some beautiful fabrics and works with a lovely soft muted colour palette so I know you'll love working with her linens. If you keep doing great business like this I'm afraid the tax return will become an annual necessity!! Congratulations to you Jill, the only way is up from now on. The VA straw fabric is lovely, I'm sure the finished product will look stunning.
ReplyDeleteLoving your sense of colour and pattern. I was going to write that the only way is up, but I see I have been beaten to it. It is a joy sharing your creative journey... :O)
